Washington Area Fire Protection and Rescue Services
are comprised of three entities:

Washington Fire Department, Washington Volunteer Fire Company
and Washington Community Fire Protection District.

All three entities work together to provide fire and life safety services
to the citizens of both the City of Washington
and the Washington Community Fire Protection District.

  • The Washington Volunteer Fire Company (W.V.F.C.) has been a professional volunteer service since 1852 providing the manpower to serve and protect the citizens of both the Washington Fire Department and the Washington Community Fire Protection District. The W.V.F.C. is responsible for responding to incidents within both districts, ensuring that all equipment and apparatus are in ready status, maintaining all stations and providing guidance to both agencies for our ever growing communities.

The Washington Volunteer Fire Company membership is comprised of two divisions: fire fighter and administration. Both divisions work together to ensure that we are providing the highest quality of service we strive to for our citizens.

While both divisions can serve on any of our committees, the fire fighter division is responsible for meeting our training requirements and responding to incidents. Training to become a member in the fire fighter division requires a Missouri Division of Fire Safety Firefighter I and II certification within two years of joining. The Training Committee will ensure you can receive this training and certification.

The WVFC is proud of its 70+ members and is always accepting new applications for either division. We look forward to hearing from you and offering you the opportunity to join the fire company.

  • The WVFC is governed by an eight-person Board of Directors and the Chief of the Department. Four Directors are elected every year in June and serve a two-year term. They meet on the 2nd Tuesday of the month. The Board of Directors are responsible for handling all financial and personnel management of the WVFC.

  • The WVFC owns its original 1917 Ford Model T Foam Truck, restored by a group of enthusiastic members wanting to preserve our past. The truck is showcased in parades in the community, and occasionally weddings for our members.

  • The Washington Fire Department covers the City of Washington, Washington Airport and works in cooperation with the Washington Community Fire Protection District. The department is an ISO Class 3.

The fire department responds out of four fire stations in the City. In addition, the department has a 14 acre training facility with a 5 story training tower, two burn rooms, a state of art classroom with webinar broadcasting capabilities a propane tank and propane pit that are both fueled by natural gas.

  • The leadership of the Washington Fire Department is comprised of a Fire Chief, Assistant Chief of Operations, Deputy Chief of Administration, and Deputy Chief of Support. Reporting to the Assistant Chief are five Captains.
