​Job Description

Job Summary
Fire fighters are expected to maintain a minimum level of training to reduce the possibility of injury to themselves, their crew mates and those they serve. Fire fighters will be part of a paramilitary institution that includes using their training to the best of their ability and following the orders given by officers and senior members.

Fire fighters are expected to assist with duties around the engine house including cleaning the station and apparatus, inspecting, maintaining and checking equipment.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities
  • Directly reports to their assigned company officer
  • Assist their assigned section members and officers in the performance of routine maintenance in order to keep equipment and stations at the ready.
  • Attend training to maintain and improve the required firefighting skills
  • Respond to emergency incidents to carry out the tactical objectives of the Department.
  • Assist with public relations events to promote the fire service, and educate the citizenry on fire prevention.

​Education, Certification, and Experience Required
  • Must be a minimum 18 years of age.
  • Must reside in Washington Fire Department's response area or an adjoining fire district.
  • Should be in good physical condition to perform the strenuous activities of firefighting
  • Must pass a required physical and drug screening
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED
  • Must maintain a valid driver's license
  • Must be certified by Missouri Division of Fire Safety as Fire Fighter I and II, or complete certification within two years of joining the Department
